What? More deforestation?
If you do notice, we have a very nice patch of greenery across the street from Studio W. It's not often we see lush green forests in Petaling Jaya and it did influence our decision to open up Studio W here in Kota Damansara. We were imagining yoga classes in the middle of the park.. ahh..
Are they really serious?
Well, according to
Friends of Kota Damansara, the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has drafted a proposal to zone the remnants of the forest reserve for commercial for residential development. They have objected to such a plan and also urged the local authority to abandon any plans connected with such development.
Seriously, why should I care?
Well, true, how can a couple of chopped up trees affect your life right? You'll still get water, electricity, drive your car and enjoy cable tv. WRONG!
Here's an excerpt on why forests are important
Forests help to slow global warming because they store vast quantities of carbon. They control flooding, purify water, and cycle nutrients and soil, ultimately influencing food production for billions of people.
And they house an incredible array of living organisms, which provide a foundation for the resilience of natural systems and the genetic material for valuable new products.” (Global Forest Watch: Canada’s Forests at a Crossroads, World Resources Institute, 2000, p. 9)

The bad news is..
If we don't have a forest:
1) It's gonna be called Hot Damansara, not Kota Damansara.
2) Lazy Sunday Mornings will be re-phrased to Lazy Hot Sundays
3) We might need to start hiring red indians for a rain dance
What can I do?
Help
Friends of Kota Damansara fight the cause.
Their website is loaded with information and there is also
an online-objection form. Great
You Tube video (I didn't know they had great activities in the forest there!)
